A Married Couple Becomes Agitated About Their Excessive And Abusive Drinking And Wonders If They Manifest Any Signs Of Alcohol Dependency

Lenny and Angie have been married for three years. They wanted to have some fun and excitement before they decided to have a family and so they deliberately fashioned a super vibrant social life.

The essential difficulty, however, is that virtually everything they do to have fun has something to do with drinking. For instance, all of the dinner engagements, happy hours, sporting events, family get-togethers, and parties with friends they spend time at have something to do with drinking.

If they were moderate drinkers this wouldn't be such a difficult situation. Since they drink quite heavily, however, they are starting to take note of some instantly recognizable alcohol-related issues in their lives.

For example, just three days ago Lenny was placed in custody for his first DUI and has been leaving early from work due to alcohol-related health problems. Moreover, Lenny's last two performance assessments at the office have been less than admirable and he has begun to forget what he does or says while he drinks. Finally, Lenny has been experiencing sleep-related problems and his family has begun to agonize over his drinking situation.

In a similar manner, Angie has been feeling unhappy about life and to manage these feelings, she has been drinking more frequently than any time in the past two years. Furthermore, Angie has been experiencing more than a few throbbing headaches and experiencing agonizing hangovers after drinking. Finally, Angie has been feeling substantially less energetic in the morning, she has been getting to work late every Monday, and she has been getting some negative criticism from her family members, relatives, friends, and coworkers about her hazardous and careless drinking.

One Monday evening while watching TV, Lenny and Angie inadvertently discovered a fascinating program about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about alcoholism signs in particular. This TV special was a real realization to Angie and Lenny because some of the alcohol facts that were gone over appeared as if they were unwaveringly associated with some of the drinking issues Lenny and Angie had been going through.

With thoughts of the television program still fresh in her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcoholism signs they have been exhibiting could mean that they are dependent on alcohol or maybe becoming alcohol dependent. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's question and so he recommended that they make an appointment with one of the therapists at the local alcohol abuse treatment facility to find out more about the severity of their drinking issues.

Paradoxically, although their drinking behavior hadn't yet changed, it was apparent that Angie and Lenny were at least tackling their drinking issues, they were enthusiastic about finding out more about their drinking situation, and they were interested in learning how they could notably reduce or eliminate the alcohol-related problems that had started to intensify.

When Angie and Lenny went to bed that evening, they arrived at a decision that the next day, Lenny would call and make an appointment for both of them at the alcohol treatment center located in the next town. After they made a promise to one another that they would do whatever it takes to prevail over the alcohol-related difficulties that had become apparent in their lives, they actually had the best night's sleep they could recall in the last month.
