THE QUEEN BEE’S KNEES OF BUDGET TABLETS – GREAT VALUE Finally, we have a very high performance tablet available for under £50.00.That’s not a typing error – Amazon’s very latest Fire 7 tablet will set you back just the meagre sum of £49.99.For that relatively modest price, you get no less than a 7 inch display tablet with a 1020 x 600 screen resolution, a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, VGA front and 2MP rear cameras, and even the added bonus of a micro-SD port.Amazon asserts that the fully charged battery will function for up to seven hours, including reading, viewing movies and playing games. Amazon also asserts that its new Fire 7 tablet is twice as durable as the iPad Air 2, which is quite a bold claim. This particular tablet runs Amazon’s own, custom made version of Android, dubbed Fire OS, and running the very latest version, Fire OS 5 ‘Bellini’. This gives a very different look and feel on the display screen, with Amazon’s own goods and services very much thrust to the fore (as is the case…

This is a good thing. This will do things your ipad will … A four hundred quid ipad it ain’t.. This is a good thing. This will do things your ipad will never do. It will hang out the back of your pocket while you’re running for a bus. It will sit on the radiator while you’re on the loo so you can watch Battlestar Galactica. It will sit on the messy, gravelly workbench in the shed while you use it for plans. For those expecting a high end tablet experience you’re deluded, for those mocking this for it’s low end specs you are a snob. So it can’t play demanding games? So what, it’s a tablet, if you buy a tablet for gaming you’ve really no right to complain about performance. Buy a laptop or a PS vita instead. What’s the point of paying the price of a decent laptop for a tablet you’ll carry around like a delicate holy relic? This is about media. Books, music, web and general apps you will use.You can use it for music I suppose, no real reason you can’t but a phone is the the same and you’re more likely to be carrying one but by all…

Under £50!! But is it any good? As a life-long Apple fan I’m surprised to find myself going to the dark side – writing a positive but balanced review of the Amazon Fire Tablet.I’ve owned several iPad’s and tested and reviewed numerous inexpensive (sometimes “cheap and nasty”), 7 and 10 inch tablets, and was impressed by this. As I work in IT, I’m aware just how confusing technology can be, so I’ll try to avoid references to jargon, and focus instead on the experience.Quick Summary==========Although not as sharp as the more expensive competition, the screen is clear, bright and colourful at almost any angle, and a pleasure to watch video or play games on. It is highly reflective, and pretty useless in bright sunlight, but otherwise great. However, the low resolution makes reading very small text difficult.Web performance is certainly fast enough, and it ran the graphically intense “Real Racing 3” with…
